On December 24, 2015, a Vestas wind turbine collapsed in Lemnhult, Sweden. More than a year later, the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority has launched its report. The full report, in Swedish, can be accessed by clicking the links on this page. An English summary which is also provded in the report is posted below. Images of the collapsed Vestas V112 turbine can be found here.
Since the mid-1960s, pilots at Sheppard Air Force Base have made supersonic training flights over the Texas Red River Valley, a region sufficiently remote that mostly cattle ranchers and oil riggers caught sight of the small planes known as "white rockets" as they streaked across the horizon. But North Texas has changed over a half-century. Wichita Falls, where Sheppard remains a leading employer and a major military flight school, today claims nearly 105,000 residents and is the center of Texas' 19th-largest metropolitan area.
The widow of a South Dakota man who was killed in a plane crash in 2014 is blaming the Federal Aviation Administration for the accident.
RCMP discovered several bullet holes in one of the transformers for the wind turbines. They say it appears the shots were possibly fired from the nearby roadway.
The wind was blowing hard over the last few days in the southern Italian peninsula, so strong that a wind turbine disintegrated under the force.
On February 5, 2017 in Aquilonia, town in the province of Avellino in the Campania region of Southern Italy, a wind turbine near the road began to turn very fast, then disintegrated, throwing pieces around and forcing the car drivers to make a U-turn. The scene was filmed by some citizens by chance and then spread through the social networks.
The massive structure, near the Begny Hill Road between Dromara and Ballynahinch, was photographed lying in pieces on the ground. The images also showed a large crane active on the site amid the wreckage.
AUSTIN - When 39-year-old twin brothers Jimmy and Joe Horn set out to build up to 80 wind turbines near Wichita Falls, the energy developers didn’t envision the blowback they would encounter from a powerful neighbor — the United States Air Force.
They are used to generate electricity but this wind turbine at Ballynahinch, County Down, sparked interest from a sharp-eyed snapper after appearing to keel over.
The reason for the crash and the identity of the pilot both remained unclear by Thursday afternoon. But the plane reportedly hit the wind turbine at a height of 40 metres in relatively clear air.
The astonishing structural failure of the £2 million machine has prompted demands for information by the community in Barrhill. Scottish Power Renewables failed to alert the public to the incident for seven days. ...“Debris was spread over half a kilometre and a crane was been brought in to try and clear the damage.
Somerset Town Supervisor Dan Engert said, “Senator Ortt has introduced legislation that will remove the possibility of any unintended impacts caused by industrial wind turbines on any military mission of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station and it will put an end to this ill-conceived project and any other in Somerset.
“This bill will both enhance public safety in communities adjacent to military bases and help our military better train to defend our homeland,” Cornyn said in a statement.
A bill cosponsored by U.S. Rep. Walter Jones is designed to curb construction of wind farms near military installations but will not affect the nearly completed $400 million Amazon Wind Farm US East project, a spokeswoman for the congressman said Wednesday.
Donald Trump has encouraged his cabinet nominees to take the initiative as soon as they’re on the job, and one area ripe for action is reversing the Obama Administration’s habit of letting its green-energy obsessions interfere with national defense. A good place to start is reviewing a wind farm that could compromise a crucial U.S. defense radar in southern Virginia.
A wind turbine has collapsed in the south-west of Scotland, BBC Scotland understands. The incident happened at Kilgallioch wind farm early last Friday. An investigation has been launched by developer Scottish Power Renewables and turbine manufacturer Gamesa.
According to a hunter, a major incident occurred Wednesday morning at the Nurlu wind farm: a blade rolled out of the rotor and was shredded into several pieces on the ground.
The Nurlu wind energy facility suffered a catastrophic blade failure. The four Gamesa G90-2 MW turbines are owned and operated by EDF Renewable Energies (Iberdrola) and have been in service since 2010.
It's one of two the Corpus Christi Republican is planning to promote this Congress related to wind farms. The second “has more to do with tax credits,” Farenthold spokeswoman Elizabeth Peace said. That legislation, which is planned to be introduced after next week’s inauguration, will mirror a bill U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, introduced last year and be co-sponsored, Peace added.
News of a possible wind farm development near a northwest Texas Air Force base has raised concerns about protecting military properties from outside development. Related legislation is poised to be a part of this legislative session. This is part of our "State of Mind" video series. The 15 military installations based in Texas prepare thousands of service members and generate more than 136-billion dollars in economic activity each year, according to the state comptroller. State lawmakers want to ensure nothing interferes with the bases’ missions.
