Fire has engulfed two Nordex turbines at the 5.2-MW Trimdon Grange wind farm in England’s Durham county, developed by EDF Energy Renewables, the Gazette Live said on Thursday.
The fire was caused by the wind turbine transformers, according to a spokesman of electrical distribution firm Northern Powergrid. The accident, which happened on Wednesday afternoon, cut off power to homes in the Teesside region for several hours.
The Trimdon Grange wind park consists of four Nordex turbines of 1.3 MW each. The facility has been generating power since October 2008. It is operated by Cumbria Wind Farms.
