Officials are trying to figure out what brought down a wind turbine in Southeast Nebraska Tuesday morning.
NextEra Energy Resources said one of towers in its Steele Flats Wind Farm south of Diller went off-line around 5 a.m.
Just what caused the 426-foot structure, including the props, to collapse is unknown.
Weather does not appear to be a factor.
The Jefferson County Emergency Management director said top winds gusts Monday were 35 mph and had diminished to less than 20 mph Tuesday morning.
"Those towers have been in a lot stronger wind," John McKee said.
McKee had not been to the site but said from the photos he has seen, the tower appeared to have crumpled in on itself which what it's designed to do.
