BAD AXE — On Wednesday, Exelon Wind Generation plans to explain what caused a wind turbine to fall in February, and officials are set to review Gemini Group’s plan to build a 201,000-square-foot warehouse near Ubly.
Both are on tap for the county planning commission meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m.
A 400-foot wind turbine fell on a farm field near Berne and Gagetown roads on Feb. 25 (http://bit.ly/1LIc7Y6).
Developer Exelon said in March it was looking into the turbine’s pitch system, which controls how the blades move back and forth.
Exelon says it sent materials from the 485,000-pound, $1.5 million turbine to an independent lab for analysis (http://bit.ly/1XYb0ug). The developer at the time said it hadn’t made a decision on whether the turbine will be replaced.
Exelon officials are scheduled to present a “root cause analysis” Wednesday.
Huron County planners also are set to review a request from Gemini Group.
The company plans a 201,000-square-foot warehouse at 4305 N. Ubly Road, situated on 38 acres on parcels both within and outside Ubly village limits near the railroad tracks between Leppek and Atwater roads, according to a site plan.
