Is this the end of wind farm wars in Lincs?

A wind farm proposal for Croft Bank has been ‘blown away’ by Government plans to give the public a greater say on planning applications for turbines.

REG Windpower has withdrawn its application to put six turbines on land beside Coddington’s Yard, following in the footsteps of a company called Vattenfall that withdrew an application for a site at Nocton Fen last week.

With the withdrawal of Nocton Fen last week and now this application at Croft, I hope this signifies the end of conflict between developers and residents across Lincolnshire over onshore wind proposals.

Coun Colin Davie, county council executive member for economic development and strategic planning, is delighted for the residents who fought against the Croft Bank application and hopes the withdrawal of two proposed wind farms will signal the end of conflict between developers and residents.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted for residents who opposed this application that it has now been withdrawn by the applicant. It is further confirmation and vindication that the county council view to oppose further onshore wind developments in recent years is now supported by Government policy.

“With the withdrawal of Nocton Fen last week and now this application at Croft, I hope this signifies the end of conflict between developers and residents across Lincolnshire over onshore wind proposals.”

The Croft Bank application was due to be considered by East Lindsey’s planning committee tomorrow (Thursday) but will now be withdrawn.

• The Government has promised to give communities the final say on windfarms.

A spokesman for Vattenfall said that law change had introduced “increased risk” for developers.
