Investigation into wind turbine fire on Todmorden Moor

An investigation will be carried out by engineers of how a wind turbine caught fire on the hills of Todmorden Moor.

Firefighters from Todmorden and Bacup, were called to the flaming structure off Flower Scar Road at 3.45am this morning (Wednesday).

When they arrived at the scene engineers advised crews to let the fire burn itself out due the high risk of high voltage and oil in the structure.

A spokesperson for Renewable Energy Systems who own the turbine site said: This morning a fire broke out in a turbine at Todmorden Moor Wind Farm in West Yorkshire.

“The fire service attended the site, but the fire extinguished itself. No one was hurt in the incident and as a precaution an exclusion zone has been set up around the turbine.

“Incidents like this are extremely rare and a full investigation into its cause has commenced.”

The cordon remains in place and fire chiefs are warning walkers to take care if they are in the area.
