ST. CLOUD — A wind turbine which has sat idle since it was erected at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center in 2011 is a failed project.  The Department of Veterans Affairs has now terminated the contract with the firm who built it…

St. Cloud VA spokesman Barry Venable says the contractor was commissioned to provide a fully operational wind turbine and has failed to do so.

The VA has paid a majority of the $2,300,000 cost to build the wind turbine built by JK Scanlon Company of Falmouth, Massachusetts.

It’s estimated that a functional wind turbine would provide the St. Cloud VA with approximately 15% of their annual electricity usage or a savings of $150,000-$200,000 per year.

Venable points out this is a contractual termination and wouldn’t speculate on whether it will become a legal battle.
