Environmentalism - Why green isn't always good

Has the environmental movement become a misguided crusade? Has it been hijacked by those who use a veil of environmentalism to enact legislation which is favourable to their own goals? Why are we so influenced by green polices and politicians? Why are green campaigns so captivating? Does the question need to be asked; is being green anything more than a fashion statement these days?
