Hays Wind seeks approval of relocation of 15 turbines

As the result of a settlement last year involving Hays Wind, Ellis County and 21 plaintiffs, 15 turbines in the project area had to be relocated. Hays Wind, owned by Iberdrola Renewables, has proposed 18 turbines in its permit application, but is requesting approval of only 15, according to spokeswoman Jan Johnson.


A conditional-use permit for additional turbines for the proposed Hays Wind LLC project southwest of Hays will be up for a public hearing later this month.

As the result of a settlement last year involving Hays Wind, Ellis County and 21 plaintiffs, 15 turbines in the project area had to be relocated.

The area of the proposed 200-megawatt project now encompasses nearly 22 square miles and more than 14,000 acres. The west end of the project has been extended past 150th Avenue and the project continues east to 220th Avenue.

The public hearing for the turbine relocation will follow public hearings for three meteorological towers for the same project.

The Ellis County Joint Planning Commission will conduct the public hearings along with its regular meeting at 7 p.m. April 28 at the 601 Main meeting room in Hays.
