ARKPORT - In an effort to gain more knowledge about wind farms, the Hornellsville town board will host an informational meeting at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
On hand will be Rick Henry of Rochester-based Clark Patterson Associates PC, who is knowledgeable about wind farm projects, town Supervisor Ken Isaman said. Members of the Hartsville town board also have been invited to attend, he said.
“Our engineering firm is Clark Patterson, and a colleague of our water systems engineer is very knowledgeable about wind farms, both from as technical standpoint and practical standpoint,” Isaman said. “Rick Henry made an offer to come talk to the town board.
“I'm not sure if he's going to give us any new information, but any new piece is good,” he added. “I also believe he's got a working knowledge of the Golisano team.”

Billionaire B. Thomas Golisano has been a commercial wind farm opponent, and recently met with Hartsville residents about proposing a community-operated project in that town. Steve Dombert of Hartsville was one of the people who's had contact with Golisano, and broached the subject at the Hartsvile town board meeting Wednesday. Isaman has had no contact with Golisano, but he has talked with Dombert.
“I've asked Steve Dombert to set up a large meeting so we could accommodate the whole county,” he said. “I'm hoping to hold it at the Hornell High School auditorium or someplace larger like that.
“I've told him (Dombert) to keep it timely because of the things that are happening with Airtricity and other companies wanting to get started,” Isaman added.
No information has been announced yet about the potential meeting.
Airtricity has proposed construction of 22 to 34 turbines in Hartsville, with expansion of the “Steuben Project” into Hornellsville. The Steuben County Industrial Development Agency has been appointed as lead agency for the Hartsville project. Isaman is unsure how many are being proposed for the expansion into Hornellsville.
“I've heard conflicting numbers,” he said. “I did meet with Jim Sherron (SCIDA director) and based on his information there are two towers in Hornellsville.
“I thought Airtricity had said 15, so it may be a number between those two,” Isaman added. “I did follow up and ask Matt Casey (of Airtricity) if he had any knowledge and he said he believed it would be somewhere in between that. They are trying to get more leases in Hornellsville, I believe.”
