The University of Delaware is moving forward with plans to develop a field to test wind turbines in shallow water off the Delaware coast. ...State environmental officials said they haven't heard back from university representatives on the proposal since they met in February. State permits would likely be required before any project could proceed.

Rollins wind project obtains financing

Boston-based First Wind announced today that it has obtained $98 million in construction financing for its Rollins wind farm, near Lincoln. The company said it has closed on an $81 million construction loan and a $17 million letter of credit. Key Bank National Association and Norddeutsche Landesbank Girozentrale are the lead arrangers for the financing.

Turbine plan withdrawn - for now

Jim Sweeney, president of Sustainable New Energy, the applicant for the project, says he’s requesting the project be withdrawn for the time being while a modification of the plan is crafted. The plan has drawn heated opposition from neighbors and abutters who say the turbines would be an eyesore.

New York pays up to $400,000 for customer wind turbines

Participants can get subsidies of up to $400,000, or up to half the cost of a wind installation, whichever is less. NYSERDA will subsidize wind systems of up to 600 kilowatts — 60 times bigger than a typical household system. The new rules are likely to attract interest from commercial customers whose access to wind power incentives was previously limited.
