2019 US wholesale solar prices more than double wind, gas as renewables use reaches record levels: EIA

In 2019 more than half of wind generation occurred at night, "resulting in lower average wholesale prices for wind-powered electricity than solar-powered electricity." EIA data shows wind farms in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas collectively produced 45% of total U.S. wind generation in 2019 and in those states the average wholesale wind price was $26/MWh compared with $47/MWh for wind generation in the remaining states.

County opts out of green-energy tax exemption

Tuesday night at the Niagara County Courthouse, opponents of the proposed Bear Ridge Solar project in Cambria/Pendleton showed their support of a county law denying property tax exemptions to local solar and wind energy generation projects. For Niagara County Legislator David Godfrey, Tuesday night's legislative battle over opting out of a state-authorized property tax exemption for solar and wind energy systems had nothing to do with going green.

Clifton Park residents oppose solar array

Wilson, who is an attorney, also argued that a solar array can only be allowed in a conservation-residential zoned neighborhood like theirs under a special use permit. Mitsubishi eyes Great Lakes for offshore wind development

Wissemann said future Great Lakes projects will look more like those shaping up along the Atlantic Coast: larger and more competitive on cost. Winter ice endemic to the Great Lakes is not an engineering challenge for turbines affixed to the seabed, and there’s no need to demonstrate any particular technology for freshwater projects to advance, he said. “I think you can go bigger, faster in the Great Lakes.”

German company leases 12,000 acres for planned wind farm near Harrisburg

RWE could technically apply to rezone the land it has leased from agricultural to light industrial use. Florea said that would put more of a burden on RWE to get public input from local landowners than waiting for the county to develop rules. Since there’s no specific language in Boone County ordinances about wind turbines, he added, qualifying them as light industrial would be a “judgment call” based on similar land uses in that category.
