Galloo Island wind project sold to Virginia-based Apex Clean Energy

Hudson Energy Development has sold its development rights for the Galloo Island wind project to Apex Clean Energy, a much larger renewable-energy company in Charlottesville, Va. The takeover comes after Hudson, of Albany, spent roughly two years developing the 31-tower, 102.3-megawatt project that calls for 575-foot-tall turbines on the island in the town of Hounsfield.

Apex files Lighthouse Wind plans

The Virginia-based company, through its subsidiary Lighthouse Wind, on Monday formally filed its preliminary scoping statement to the state’s Public Service Commission for a proposed 201-megawatt wind turbine network in Yates and Somerset.

Iberdrola could revisit plans for Horse Creek Wind Farm in Clayton

Though Iberdrola’s 446-megawatt pledge does not call for any wind projects in New York, its 48-turbine, 96-megawatt wind farm planned in the town of Clayton is among several projects statewide that could still materialize, according to Paul N. Copleman, spokesman for the developer. He said the developer now has 500 megawatts of wind power under development with projects planned in New York.

County legislators are ‘outraged’ with state process for siting Yates, Somerset turbines

Orleans County legislators may be taking a wait-and-see approach with a proposed wind energy project in Yates and Somerset, but the county officials aren’t holding back their opinions on the loss of local control in deciding the fate of the project. “Every New Yorker should be outraged with Albany stepping on local governments,” said Legislator Don Allport, R-Gaines.

Wind survey delay, postings lead to confusion in Yates

A committee representing the Yates Town Council, Save Ontario Shores and Apex Clean Energy is still putting together a survey gauging support and opposition to locating a wind energy network with in the town, Supervisor John Belson said. “(Councilman) Wes Bradley is working to put it together with S.O.S. and Apex, but it takes time,” Belson said

Cassadaga board hears wind farm update

The Cassadaga Wind Project is a proposed 126 megawatt wind farm located in the towns of Arkwright, Charlotte and Cherry Creek, according to Everpower's website. The project will be located on primarily farmland and could include up to 62 turbines when completed.

Town of Somerset hires Vacco in legal fight against Apex wind power project

The Town of Somerset has hired former state Attorney General Dennis C. Vacco to lead a legal fight against Apex Clean Energy’s proposed wind power project, and Apex may have to pay for it. Supervisor Daniel M. Engert said the town, and the anti-wind power citizens group Save Ontario Shores, or SOS, are allowed to apply to the state Public Service Commission for “intervenor funds” that would have to come out of the pocket of the Virginia wind turbine company.

Developer hopes to bring 50-100 more wind turbines to Clinton County

Back in Franklin and Clinton Counties, people are still filing grievances with local government officials about the turbines that have been going up over the last decade. “The turbines have interfered with people’s lives in this town,” said Chad Garrow, a resident of Churubusco. “I am for clean energy but I am not for destroying people’s lives in the pursuit of it,” he said.

Galloo Island wind developer submits proposal to start Article 10 review

The PSC informed the developer in a July 15 letter that it will need to make several revisions before submitting a preliminary scoping statement for the project — the next step in the review process. Calling Hudson’s plan “inadequate in several areas,” the letter states that the developer’s proposed study area for the project should be expanded to include more municipalities that would be affected by the view of the wind farm.
