Leelanau Community Energy, which owns the wind turbine, says the future of the turbine is uncertain. “It appears that to restore this turbine may not be practical, but we don’t have all the answers to those questions. We will be talking to the provider of this turbine and see what they might recommend,” says Douglas McInnis, the manager at Leelanau Community Energy. McInnis says the Turbine is insured, but the replacement is not covered.

The top 25-feet of the wind turbine there collapsed sometime last week. It wasn’t in operation at the time of the failure and was planned for routine maintenance.
