In refusing the application, the planning department cited three main issues with the development such as the turbines being located in lands designated as 'less favoured' for wind energy infrastructure under the Roscommon Renewable Energy Strategy. Another issue for county planners when deciding on the issue, were concerns over the impact to traffic the development would have on an adjacent section of the N61.

Roscommon County Planners denied the application over three main concerns.

Planning permission for two Wind Turbines in North Roscommon have been refused by county planners.

The application submitted by Curlew Energy Ltd sought clearance from Roscommon county council to build the turbines in townslands including Leam, Ballybaun, Grange Beg and others near Boyle in the north of the county.

The wind turbines would be 150 metres in height, with a rotor diameter of 138m.

Also included in the application was a permanent 80m meteorological mast, associated hard stands, site service roads and several kilometres of under and over ground cabling.
