The investigation has shown that the fire at the Piet de Wit wind farm of the Deltawind cooperative was probably caused by a short circuit. Although the employees had removed the electrical voltage from a large part of the turbine, a dropped tool could result in a short circuit. The employees then probably tried to extinguish the fire, and then probably could no longer reach the - narrow - escape route.

Barneveld NETHERLANDS -- The Barneveld company Bettink Service Team, which was involved in a fatal fire in a windmill in Ooltgensplaat in South Holland in 2013, is not held criminally responsible for this. In the investigation into the fire, the public prosecutor did not identify any errors that could penalize the company for which the two engineers worked. On the basis of the investigation, the OM does come to the conclusion that more regulations may be needed for the construction and maintenance of such wind turbines. The OM has therefore informed the relevant ministries and the Dutch Safety Board of the investigation findings.

On October 29, 2013, Daan Kous (19) from Voorthuizen and Arjan Kortus (21) from Hoevelaken died after a fire in the cabin at a height of 67 meters.

Led by the Public Prosecution Service in Rotterdam, both the police, the Netherlands Forensic Institute and the Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate investigated the occurrence of the fire, and whether the company and employees of the company followed the applicable regulations.

The officer concludes that there have been no criminal offenses against the Working Conditions Act or Decree. Neither can the company be blamed for death. The SZW Inspectorate is investigating whether the company has to account for violations of administrative law.

The officer has since announced the conclusions in a conversation with the relatives.

Bettink Service Team is a company that specializes in the maintenance of wind turbines.
