A Minneapolis company has filed a permit request with the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission for a wind farm in Brookings County that would have 100 turbines.
A Minneapolis company has filed a permit request with the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission for a wind farm in Brookings County that would have 100 turbines.
The wind farm near White would develop enough electricity for 80,000 homes. South Dakota's largest wind farm is now located near Highmore. It has 27 turbines.
The much-larger Brookings County wind farm would be five times as large and produce 200 megawatts of juice. It's scheduled to be operational in December of next year.
A federal study has ranked South Dakota as second in the nation in terms of wind power potential.
