Wind farm operators fear incentives too far off

The Musselroe wind farm is in doubt because of the Federal Government's refusal to provide incentives for energy retailers to buy wind power.

Proponents of a wind farm in Tasmania's north-east say they cannot wait years for the Federal Government to reconsider its stance on renewable energy.

The Musselroe wind farm is in doubt because of the Federal Government's refusal to provide incentives for energy retailers to buy wind power.

Tasmanian wind farm company, Roaring 40s, and representatives from the State Government were in Canberra yesterday, lobbying the Federal Government for more support for the renewable energy industry.

Roaring 40s managing director Mark Kelleher says there have been indications from the Federal Government that it may be prepared to rethink its position.

"We are working very hard at the moment, right across the industry in developing up some ideas," he said.

"We have been encouraged to bring those forward to the Federal Government ... we think there may be some possibility that that may happen.

"The issue for Musselroe is, of course, that if that does happen, it's likely to take a couple of years to come in and we can't wait that long."
