Wind farm planners deny bowing to Trump's demands

Developers behind plans for an Aberdeen offshore wind farm are denying that their proposals have been ‘watered down’ in response to concerns raised by billionaire Donald Trump.

The latest proposals from the Aberdeen Renewable Energy group show far fewer turbines along a shorter stretch of coastline.

Mr Trump had threatened to pull out of his proposed project to build a luxury golf resort north of the city if the turbines encroached on the view.

Original plans for the wind farm consisted of 33 turbines stretching from Aberdeen to Newburgh, less than a mile offshore. But the most recent proposals to be unveiled at a renewable energy exhibition in the city later this week will show just 23 turbines from the mouth of the River Don to Blackdog.

Flamboyant US entrepreneur Donald Trump wants to build a 300 million world class golf resort on the Menie Estate at Balmedie. On a visit to the site last month he warned Scotland against compromising its beauty with wind farms.

The Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group, who met with the Trump organisation last month, deny they have altered their 100 million project in response to the billionaire's concerns. They say the proposal has evolved over the last eighteen months.
