Wind energy developer Enertrag hosted a public exhibition on Wednesday on its plans to build three 140m high turbines at Tivetshall St Mary.

Held in the Tivetshall village hall, Enertrag said it was pleased with a turnout of about 80 local people and said they received a mix of views.

Visitor and Tivetshall St Mary villager Ian Henson, who is a member of the Tivetshall Action Group, opposing the development, said: "I would still be concerned about the health issues, being so close to residential properties.

"We have homes within 600-700 metres which I don't think is appropriate. I don't find them unattractive, but they need to be in the right places and this site is too small."

David Reynolds, of Gissing, about two miles from the proposed site, said: "I am totally against the industrialisation of the countryside.

"Wind farms like this are not an efficient use of limited financial resources."

He added he feared the area would be "surrounded" by wind turbines, with similar plans for wind farms in other parts of south Norfolk and north Suffolk.

A Tivetshall St Mary resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "It will probably go ahead no matter what.

"When they put the pylons through the countryside, we were not told about them. At least we are being consulted."

Another Tivetshall St Mary resident, who also did not wish to be named, said: "They would be better off building Sizewell C, rather than fiddling about with three turbines that don't generate much power."

The plans are due to be submitted at the end of April.
