Plans to build three more wind turbines above Burnley have been met with anger by local residents. ...And now those who are opposed are asking people with concerns to write to the power company. Peter Worden, who lives close to the wind farm, said: "The new turbines are going to be massive and will be right in front of our house blocking a big part of the view," he said.

RWE npower renewables is exploring the possibility of doubling the number of turbines at Hameldon Hill Wind Farm.

The new turbines could be up to 125 metres high, taller than the three already at the site.

Bosses from the company held a public meeting to discuss the proposals with local residents, many of who are against the plans.

"Having three of them that tall is going to completely spoil the environment. The three turbines up already never appear to be turning much so I'm not sure how much electricity they actually provide. Nobody around here seems to want any more but we didn't manage to stop the first three being built, so I'm not sure what will be different now.

"The countryside is now becoming urbanised which is a real shame.

"There will be turbines all around Burnley soon the way things are going, it will spoil the beautiful countryside in the area."

The existing three turbines were erected in 2007 and produce enough electricity to meet the annual needs of around 3,000 UK households.

Steve Milburn, development manager for RWE npower renewables, said the company was investigating the feasibility of the scheme.

He said: "We are currently assessing the site to see if it has the capacity for three additional wind turbines.

"As we already have turbines at Hameldon Hill, we know that this is a suitable location for a wind farm and the extra turbines would increase the amount of electricity generated, as well as the contribution to UK renewable energy targets."
