FAIRLEA, W.Va. (AP) - More than 400 people turned out for a public hearing on a proposed wind farm in Greenbrier County.

ZZZZZZZZZZZ

Tuesday's hearing in Fairlea was held by the state Public Service Commission. The PSC is considering Beech Ridge Energy's application for the $300-million-dollar project.

Supporters said the proposed 124-turbine project would create jobs and tax revenue for the county. Opponents said the turbines would spoil scenic views, hurt property values and kill bats and birds.

Dan Zahorenko of Williamsburg says he never imagined living near a wind farm with 40-story turbines. He called the project "a sad, horrible thing."

Beech Energy project director Dave Groberg said the state's only existing wind farm in Tucker County hasn't hurt tourism or property values there.

The PSC is expected to rule on Beech Ridge's proposal by the end of August.
