U-Turn Over Wind Farm

Tony Blair, before Christmas 2005, admitted that wind power was not effective in the fight against global warming. Think on it.

How does a prominent politician or political party manoeuvre a very sharp U-turn? A planning approval U-turn was executed by the UK Government rejection of a massive wind farm proposal at Whinash, Cumbria, in the English Lake District.

The area where the wind farm was proposed had the M6 motorway and a main railway line already running through it.

This opens up a whole can of worms in the wind farm battles up and down this land of ours, Wales. Or does the UK Government regard the Welsh mountains and hills as less beautiful than their English counterparts? This is the question quite rightly posed by the editor of this newspaper on March 4.

The total of all the wind farms proposed for Wales under Tan8 will reduce UK CO? emissions by about a miserly 0.1 per cent. The areas proposed for these Welsh wind farms are, in my view, just as or even more beautiful than the Whinash area of Cumbria.
