Warning over test turbines by campaigner

Powys planning officials have opened the door to a flood of speculative wind farm applications across the county, claims a Mid Wales businessman.

Giving the go-ahead to three 150ft test turbines in the south of the county was tantamount to giving developers a “green light”, said Dan Munford, of Welshpool, who last year launched a petition against any new wind turbines until a referendum was held.

He attended last week’s Radnorshire planning meeting, where approval was given for test masts at Bwlch-y-Sarnau, Garreg Llwyd and St Harmon.

Following the meeting, Mr Munford said: “Planning officers have given developers a green light to apply for test masts anywhere in Montgomeryshire or Radnorshire.

“When they advised councillors that they ‘couldn’t see any basis for refusal on the grounds that two of the sites were outside of the SSA designated areas’ they effectively tore up the rule book.”
