Donald Trump: 'Wind turbines have destroyed Palm Springs'

Don't count Donald Trump among fans of wind power. On Monday, the developer and "Apprentice" host went on the record - Twitter - with his thoughts about the wind turbines that line the roads leading to Palm Springs. "Ugly wind turbines have destroyed the entrance to Palm Springs, CA," he tweeted. "These mon[s]trosities are ruining landscapes all over the globe-expensive & bad electric."

Green, renewable energy wipes out the Texas landscape

In the hill country where I live, there was a time when you could enjoy the blue haze from the distant hills, maybe set up a canvas to paint the sun setting behind them or just sit and watch while the color washed over them at dusk. Now those hills are dotted with wind generators churning out electricity. This pastoral scene looks nothing like the Texas kids imagined when they imagined cowboys and cattle drives.

Ca_turbinesizecomparison_thumb This composite image shows the relative size of the older turbines at the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area and those replacing them. The smaller turbines are the Windmatic 65 kilowatt machines that stand 84 feet tall on four-leg lattice towers. The blade length is 7 meters. The larger towers are Mitsubishi 1 megawatt turbines installed in the Buena vista section of Altamont with blade lengths of 31 meters.

Turbines add twist to cross case

The District 7 Commission of the ANR ruled that the cross was "shocking and offensive," and wants it down. State attorneys confirmed that the evidence has been reopened for the case, due to the erection of the wind towers, but declined to comment for the record. The judge is agreeable to admitting new evidence based on the wind towers being in the view shed, attorneys on both sides said.

Wind farms, environmental disasters

Environmentalists do not classify wind farms as having the same negative impacts on an area's natural beauty and habitat which other conventional projects would simply because they are willing to sacrifice an area's natural beauty, all the wildlife and some endangered species as well for natural renewable energy. This would be fine if wind farms were really contributing to reducing fossil fuel usage. However, nothing could be further from reality.

Group of 7 Lewes homeowners is set to fight UD wind turbine; Group alleges lack of due diligence

A group of Lewes residents is readying a lawsuit that would target the University of Delaware, City of Lewes and other agencies that approved placement of a wind turbine on land adjacent to the university's College of Earth, Ocean and Environment Hugh R. Sharp Campus. Site preparation for the 2-megawatt wind turbine began last March and the unit began operation in August.
