Rush County wind vote tabled

Wind farm application rejected by Billings County Commission

Billings County Commissioners rejected the application for a 114-turbine wind farm on Tuesday. ...The majority of the audience voiced concern over the proposed wind farm, sighting the visual impacts as a deterrent for tourism, potential decrease in land value and the proximity of the towers to the Painted Canyon Visitor Center and Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

Timbermill Wind farm, to be nation’s tallest, denied permit in Eastern NC

A proposal to build the nation’s tallest wind energy turbines in Eastern North Carolina is on hold after Perquimans County commissioners denied a local permit to the project developer, Apex Clean Energy. ...The project faced particularly strong opposition in Perquimans County, where 54 of the proposed 57 turbines were to be built on timber land owned by Weyerehaeuser Corp.

Town board claims developer’s project area expands outside of overlay district

In a letter he submitted to the state Department of Public Service’s website, Orleans Town Supervisor Kevin C. Rarick said that the developer leased land from property owners outside of the town’s overlay district, which was established in the town’s zoning law through an amendment in 2011. Mr. Rarick said Town Board members hope that the developer will follow the town’s laws.

Planning and Zoning addresses turbine controversy

Following concerns from rural residents when workers began digging to potentially build a wind turbine in the area, Gage County Planning and Zoning discussed why a building permit hasn’t been applied for. ...While it was stated work was to begin in 2016 to obtain higher tax credits, commission members were left wondering why Bluestem didn't get a building permit first, to prevent a waste of time and work if the permit isn’t approved down the line.
