Wind farm developer Ecogen may be facing something new in its long history of threatened, and real, lawsuits against the town of Prattsburgh - a united Town Board. Board members were in unanimous agreement the developer's current proposal needs re-working when they met Monday night.

Gov. Patrick's wind energy subsidies are a risky bet

Locking in prices is supposedly desirable because it will protect NStar customers from price volatility. Yet we are in the midst of a natural gas boom that promises to revolutionize America's energy picture. Natural gas prices have plummeted from near $5 per MMbtu last summer to around $2.60 per MMbtu. According to the EIA, the energy equivalent of $3 natural gas is $18 oil. If our current prices are high, why would we want to lock them in?

DTE reconsiders Lake Twp.

Chriss said DTE Energy is disappointed the vote wasn't in favor of the new wind ordinance. ...He did not know when DTE Energy will make a decision as it re-evaluates its plans in Lake Township. He noted the utility wasn't planning on any development this year.

Almost 1,000 people flocked to the Southern Wells gymnasium Thursday evening. By the time the issue came down to a vote at approximately 1:15 this morning, that number had decreased significantly. Speakers for and (mostly) against took until just after midnight to make their points to the board.

I thought the people in the town deserved to be heard. So it was a conscious choice -- I decided the film was from the point of view of the town. We do show footage of their promo videos, because that's the information the town had access to. Dennis shellfish hatchery drops turbine suit

To the relief of some neighbors, a shellfish hatchery is dropping plans to install a wind turbine near Chapin Memorial Beach. ..."Wind turbines shouldn't be put in neighborhoods," Austin said. "None of us bear any ill will toward ARC. Industrial turbines should go in industrial areas."

The applicants failed to address the possibility of a negative job impact caused by consumers paying above-market prices for power from the wind farms compared with electricity from conventional power plants.

The new area under consideration “now includes more than 164,000 acres of federal water southwest of Nomans Land between Martha's Vineyard and Block Island.” While many state officials from Rhode Island and Massachusetts praised the revised plan, the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) is questioning whether the area still comes too close to what the tribe has considered sacred views for centuries.

Wind turbines off N.C. coast likely still years away, panel says

Wind energy is not going to be cheap. There is just no way that's going to happen ... that was recognized early on. But if jobs could come to North Carolina en masse ... that would overcome negativity with the cost of generating it." But the prospect for jobs locally is unclear. Any wind turbines erected off the coast would most likely be constructed in federal waters.
