Tall wind turbines face headwinds in Eastern NC

Opposition to wind farms has intensified around the country in recent years as the skyscraping towers encroach on residential areas and turbine designs get bigger and taller and ever more powerful. Some who live near these energy farms in other states are complaining of headaches, dizziness, sleep disruption and general annoyance caused by whooshing blades, flickering shadows and strobing hazard lights.

Grindstone Islanders hear about wind; board tours cemetery, schoolhouse

 "They say their windmills will be 500 feet high, but they may be more like 600 feet or more. That's five times higher than St. Mary's steeple," Grindstone Islander Chuck Ebbing stated.   "I told our grandchildren that if we are not careful all they will see when they look at Clayton is a field of blinking lights," he told the board and audience at Dodge Hall, where the meeting was held.

Concerns registered over wind turbine noise results

Kimberly Mueller needs to take action based on evidence in her own community. Fond duLac County has seen a long list of people filing complaints about wind turbine noise and the resulting health effects. Ignoring evidence that should be relied upon from direct witnesses, residents who have been pleading before the Board of Health at meeting after meeting, is not the way a health officer should respond.

Shirley Wind Farm health ruling stays in place

New Brown County Board of Health member Jim Crawford, of New Denmark, has indicated a belief that some of the symptoms being reported are psychological and can be addressed via counseling. But the majority of the board said the people complaining of nausea, vertigo and sleep problems deserve to have their complaints taken seriously.

Backlash against big wind: Booing Sierra Clubbers in Pennsylvania

In 2015, more than 60 governmental entities in 22 states moved to reject or restrict wind-energy developments with a total capacity of some 3,100 megawatts. During the first six months of 2016, more than 40 governmental entities in 18 states have rejected or moved to restrict the installation of wind energy facilities having a total capacity of more than 2,400 megawatts.
