Ocean City Council goes full NIMBY on wind project

Ocean City Council was unanimous in opposing Ørsted’s Ocean Wind offshore wind turbine project after a representative made a presentation Thursday night. No formal action was taken, but the seven members were clear on opposing the wind farm in the island’s back yard, saying they don’t want the 99 800-foot-plus-tall wind turbines dotting the horizon 15 miles offshore, possibly harming the island’s tourism industry.

ZBA recommends wind energy noise standards

Strata Solar pulls application for utility-scale project in Culpeper

Strata Solar on Friday afternoon pulled its application to build a utility scale power plant in Culpeper County, a week after the planning commission scrutinized, then denied, the request and neighbors intensely opposed it. This is the second time in as many years that an out-of-state solar company has abruptly yanked its request to build a big project on farmland in Culpeper after facing similar scrutiny and public opposition.

Gov. Mills plans nation’s 1st floating offshore wind farm dedicated to research

The location for the turbines hasn’t been identified, but the state is seeking a site that would minimize impact on fishing activity, limit visibility from the coastline and be away from highly trafficked waters and other offshore activities. The cost of the project is unknown and will depend on the scale and designs, state officials said. They hope it will be operating within about 5 years.
