Solar panels create noise nuisance in Edgartown

“The sound from the inverters is clearly in violation of the Mass. DEP Noise Policy, and also constitutes a noise nuisance, in my opinion, based on the sound level measurements reported here,” wrote Lawrence G. Copley, a sound engineer, in the noise assessment he presented to the town.

Independence turbine abatement order served

Talerman’s draft order calls for “a modification at the very least if not an outright shutdown” of turbine operations from midnight to 4 a.m. when the wind is traveling from the south or southwest at eight meters per second or more at the turbine hub. ...The board voted 4-1 in favor of adopting the abatement order, which was served to KWI Tuesday.

County OKs study of turbine noise

County officials say an outside and independent source is needed because no one on county government boards has the expertise as it relates to sound from turbines. The need also is driven by input from several residents who have complained of noise from turbines nearby their homes.

Study: Monroe turbines too noisy

Acoustic testing of the Hoosac Wind turbines in Monroe and Florida show that noise levels have exceeded the maximum decibel range permissible for the 19-turbine New England Wind facility. Wind turbines in Massachusetts are not allowed to exceed the ambient noise-level of their surroundings by more than 10 decibels.

Lowell Wind opponents slam noise monitoring plans

In reaction to those complaints, the PSB wants to know what the department thinks about the impact of background noise when monitoring turbine-generated sounds. The board also wants to know what the obstacles are to real-time monitoring, and what steps would be taken to bring the project into compliance if a noise violation is found.

The banality of evil is alive and well on Cape Cod

My local newspaper recently published an op-ed piece which is one of the  ugliest, most main-spirited I have ever read.  According to its author, Melody Affonce, anyone whose health is harmed by wind turbines must furnish unassailable proof before we take action to prevent further harm.  She compares these victims to those seeking workers compensation, welfare, or disability benefits. At the moment, the only thing the turbine neighbors are actually asking for is relief.

The town ordinance requires that “the measurement shall be made at the property line; Gonsalves testifiedhe recorded the noise measurement from a second-story deck on the neighbor’s home.

Lowell Wind monitoring: PSB wants clearer reports

A workshop focused on how to draft reports that are easier to understand is scheduled, with the understanding that it "will not be a forum for discussion of the sound standard applicable to the project" or the methodology that GMP is using to study noise, the board stated.

Judge: Maine DEP chief Aho’s actions in wind case 'had no rational basis'

In a ruling issued Monday, Kennebec County Superior Court justice Michaela Murphy overturned a controversial regulatory decision Aho made in June 2011 involving noise violations at a Vinalhaven wind farm, saying there was “no rational basis or relevant evidence” to support it. Aho’s decision, which reversed the recommendations of DEP staff and the Attorney General’s Office, was the exact outcome sought by Vinalhaven’s Fox Island Wind, which was represented by Pierce Atwood, the state’s largest law firm, where Aho had worked until earlier that year.
