“While wind farms can make an important contribution to reducing greenhouse gasses, so do peat lands. When we build a wind farm on peat land it is self-defeating in terms of the environment. The site is within a 6 mile distance of nesting birds of prey and adjacent to the Water of Dye which is included in the river Dee Special Area of conservation.

Burning wind turbine in Rhede (Germany)

A police spokesman reported that the fire initially broke out in the nacelle at around 3 o'clock on Friday morning and spread to the entire turbine. One blade of the wind turbine fell off after a short time while large parts of a second blade followed. Although the third blade did not burn, it threatened to fall after the nacelle was largely destroyed.

With the energy turnaround, Germany threatens to finally lose control

The consumption of resources to implement the energy transition is "unparalleled". The federal ministries and the subordinate authorities employed around 675 full-time people last year, 300 of them in the Federal Ministry of Economics alone, spread over 34 divisions and four departments. In addition, there are at least 45 committees at federal and state level that deal with the energy transition. The effort that is made here almost contradicts one of the main goals of the energy transition: the economical and efficient use of scarce resources.

Endangered Hen Harrier on Donegal wind farm site should have been verified

The Irish Raptor Study Group has been granted permission to bring judicial review proceedings challenging a decision of An Bord Pleanála to grant planning permission for a 19-turbine wind farm located at Meenbog in South Eastern Donegal. ...They claimed that while the developer in its application did not identify the presence of breeding Hen Harrier on the wind farm site IRSG volunteers had identified two pairs of breeding Hen Harrier in the same area.

Out of sight of wind turbines - Reindeer response to wind farms in operation

A large part of the Swedish wind power expansion is currently taking place in the reindeer husbandry area. Now a new study shows that reindeer avoid areas where wind turbines are in sight, and that new wind farms also seem to change reindeer selection of calving sites. These results can help the planning of new wind farms in relation to reindeer husbandry.
