Windfarms: why are we being targeted?

"Because this is rather new technology, most of the information is coming from the developers themselves and they are not going to raise matters that might be detrimental to the industry.... They are trying to rush these developments through for at the moment the system is very attractive with its tax shelters and carbon credit availability. But we need to slow this all down and look long term at the issues."

Division on windfarm

OPPONENTS of the proposed Denmark windfarm claim the community is being unnecessarily divided by claims and counter-claims over the suitability of the Ocean Beach site. They say there has been a distortion of the facts, and have defended the Denmark Shire's rejection of the proposal. Land surveyor Peter Mortimer said the community had already shown it was strongly against the Wilson's Head site chosen by Denmark Community Windfarm Inc (DCW).

WEO shows rising energy demand to 2030

But world energy resources are adequate to meet this sustained growth trend because global oil reserves today exceed the cumulative projected production to 2030, IEA said. This optimistic outlook, however, is based on a reference scenario that IEA describes as "unsustainable." Under that reference scenario, primary world energy demand increases by an average rate of 1.6%/year, with fossil fuels accounting for 83% of the projected increase. By 2030, the world consumes 16.3 billion tonnes of oil equivalent (toe)/year—5.5 billion toe more than it does today—with more than two thirds of energy use coming from developing countries.
