Clipper delays turbine deliveries

Wind turbine manufacturer Clipper Windpower tumbled from recent highs today after it announced an issue relating to machining tolerances in its gearboxes and a short delay in turbine deliveries. As a result of the issue, the group said it has decided to introduce an additional measurement process during machining to ensure gearbox tolerances are met.

As a result of the issue, the group said it has decided to introduce an additional measurement process during machining to ensure gearbox tolerances are met.

The additional measurement process is being implemented with machining vendors and will not impact future gearbox procurement, it said.

The first phase of deliveries to the Endeavor project in Iowa, originally expected by the end of 2006, will now start at the beginning of 2007, although the group still expects to deliver 250 plus turbines in 2007.
