Trial of a lawsuit against FPL Energy, owner of a wind farm in Taylor and Nolan counties, has been postponed until Dec. 4. Several property owners in southwest Taylor County sued the company in February 2005 in connection with its plans then to build the Horse Hollow Wind Energy Center. The Horse Hollow project, with a third phase recently completed, was dedicated Thursday. FPL Energy claims Horse Hollow is the world’s largest wind farm.

Steven Thompson of Houston, attorney for the plaintiffs, said the postponement was requested by FPL. A related hearing on the plaintiffs’ request for a change of venue also was postponed until Nov. 29, mainly to fall closer to the trial date, Thompson said.

The trial had been scheduled to start next Monday, and the change of venue motion was to have been heard Oct. 11.
The plaintiffs contend that the Horse Hollow project devalues their properties by ruining the unspoiled nature of the rural countryside near their homes. Excessive noise and the prominent view of the 262-foot tall wind towers against the skyline were among problems cited by the plaintiffs.
The lawsuit was filed in 42nd District Court.
