Nozay: "killer" wind turbines at a standstill, cows and men become more at peace

FRANCE -- The wind farm of the 4 lords, in the Nozay region (Loire-Atlantique), stopped for a day. Two residents testify to the effects of this break.

Like a lull in the storm, on Monday, May 31, 2021, without warning, the eight wind turbines of the infamous Quatre Seigneurs park , located in four municipalities in the Nozay region (Loire-Atlantique), stopped turning.

Breeder Didier Potiron did not know the reason for this unusual pause - obviously unrelated to an absence of wind since other surrounding parks continued to operate - but he was able to immediately see the positibe impact it had on his cows.

Cows soothed when the wind farm is shut down

"The cows are better: they no longer hesitate to enter the milking stall", he showed on the spot.

Living on their farm in Puceul (Loire-Atlantique) long before the construction of the wind farm, which dates from 2012, Didier and Muriel Potiron have not ceased to experience serious problems since then: health problems in their dairy cows and their calves - more than 400 animals died - but also their pets and their own health.

An electrician who has become electrosensitive

This is also the case for Emmanuel Raffray , inhabitant of the village of Buffets in Saffré (Loire-Atlantique), also close to the wind farm. This professional electrician has, ironically, become "electrosensitive" in recent years. An evil that he also attributes to wind turbines. Or, more precisely, to electric current leaks and the electromagnetic fields they generate.

Electromagnetic field analysis device in hand, he shows the figures displayed directly above the buried Enedis cable which passes through his village and connects a post in Nort-sur-Erdre to the delivery post of the Four Lords wind turbines .

“Today, with the wind turbines stopped, the measured figures are very low and can be counted in Nanotesla: they correspond to the electricity that arrives from the Nort substation and allows certain equipment of the wind turbines to operate despite being shut down. These kinds of voltages don't bother me at all, ”he explains.

On the other hand, as soon as the wind turbines are working, the current flows in the other direction and the electromagnetic fields measured are sometimes 1000 times greater! What I feel is linked to this.

"13 current leakage points" along the Enedis cable

Along the 1.5 km that separate his village from the wind turbine delivery station, the electrician has, identified “thirteen points of current leaks. However, the current always seeks to return to its source by the shortest path, that is to say the most conductive. When the electricity production comes from the wind turbines and there are leaks, the current will therefore flow mainly through the water veins, which pass under some houses. This is especially true in winter, when the ground is very wet ”.

Emmanuel Raffray attributes these leaks to "cable wear, or a connection point between two cables". He would like official measurements to be carried out on it, but "it has always been denied to us until now".

The temporary shutdown of the wind farm still under negotiation

Since mid-April, a temporary shutdown protocol for the Quatre Seigneurs wind farm has been under negotiation between the State, the German operator KGAL (majority shareholder of the Nozay wind farm, the official name of the company that manages this wind farm. ), Enedis and the two affected farms. This, in order to carry out new expertise.

Originally announced for "late May or early June", these expertises do not seem to be close to finalizing an agreement on the protocol.

We are in the fourth version! We were asked to sign quickly but all our requests have so far been refused. Like the one for infrasound measurements. In each version too, breeders are required to withdraw their complaints definitively (against the State and / or the operator, Editor's note). This, even before the appraisals have taken place!

Local residents and breeders want to be heard

The breeder, while exasperated, but decided not to be once again taken to for a ride. He insists that he and his wife "will not sign" any protocol unless their concerns are better understood and addressed. But year after year, they've faced incomplete or sloppy expertise and the right language never materialize. The breeders are now resigned that no matter what happens they will be sacrificed on the altar of the economic stakes that this wind farm represents. .

Asked about the objections encountered for the signing the protocol, the Prefecture of Loire-Atlantique first of all refused to answer our questions, before putting forward the “pre-electoral reserve”:

Being in pre-election reserve period, no communication can be made on this subject before June 28.

One stop for maintenance

Tuesday 1 st June the wind turbines are set to rotate. A time worried that the stop is in a way a "maneuver" of Enedis to "distort future measures within the framework of the protocol", Didier Potiron finally had another explanation.

Met at the delivery station, Enedis technicians insisted that this was only "routine maintenance of the fleet, which takes place every two years".

The Nozay wind turbines have therefore not finished running.
