TOWN OF LINCOLN, Wis. -- Wisconsin Public Service had a 30-year permit to operate wind turbines in Kewaunee County.
The turbines went up in 1999, but this week -- 10 years early -- WPS began taking them down.
Spokesperson Matt Cullen said the business is still investing in wind power, but technology has improved over the years.
“Solar really is a viable source of renewable energy for us because it provides electricity to our customers when they need it the most, which is those really hot days.

A co-owner of El-Na farms says the turbines are partially on his property. He's disappointed that WPS will no longer rent the space.

Kewaunee Board Chairman Robert Weidner told FOX 11 that the county will lose some revenue the turbines generated.
Cullen says all of the turbines will be taken down by the end of the year.
