Turbines should not be sited near homes, period. ...Once you allow turbines to invade your area there is nothing the Vermilion County Board can do to help you. Trust me, you do not want to live in a wind turbine hell as my family does. I suggest you do your homework now instead of paying for it later.

Rural home owners beware; wind turbines will have a negative physical and psychological effect on your family.

Wind turbines will drive your property value in the ground. If you are a home owner only, not a land owner, you will have no voice in the wind project. The decision for turbines to be located next to your home will ultimately be made by the wind company.

Do not allow wind farm companies to influence the land owners with large sums of cash enabling the company to hide behind the truth.

I live in an industrial wind farm in Armstrong. I had no idea it would be impossible to live near wind turbines. If anyone tells you that turbines are quiet, they are not being honest. Do not make the mistake of driving up to or under them to listen, as the noise is produced from above and heard peripherally.

In our case, the turbines can be heard not only outside but inside our home. No longer can we enjoy being outdoors or a peaceful night's sleep without hearing the jet engine, thumping, whooshing and whining sound these turbines produce. My family is experiencing sleep deprivation, headaches, jaw pain, nausea and constant pressure in the ears from the low frequency noise emitted by turbines. Scientific studies substantiate what we are experiencing. It is called Wind Turbine Syndrome. Look it up, it is real.

The current setback distance in the Vermilion County ordinance is 1200 feet, which is not an adequate distance. Setbacks should not be calculated from the foundations of homes, but instead calculated from property lines. My family and I are living proof that setbacks of 1,685 and 2,307 feet are not far enough.

The consensus among acoustic and health experts is that setbacks should be at the very least 6,600 feet or 1.24 miles.

Turbines should not be sited near homes, period.

Speak out now because once you allow turbines to invade your area there is nothing the Vermilion County Board can do to help you. Trust me, you do not want to live in a wind turbine hell as my family does. I suggest you do your homework now instead of paying for it later. Get the truth: https://www.fairwindenergy.org.
