Township council setting setback requirements for wind turbines

Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Twp. council is planning to pass a bylaw in August that would outline the setback requirements for wind turbines.

Following the July 4 council meeting, clerk-treasurer Mark Becker said the township’s comprehensive zoning bylaw for the three wards will not come into effect until the fall. He said council wants to set the setback requirements for the wind turbines before EPCOR begins the construction of up to 70 wind turbines, which is expected later this year.

Chief Building Official Kirk Livingston said half of the stakes, marking the location of future wind turbines, will have to be moved after the bylaw is adopted. He added that the minimum requirements for setback are made in the site plan but requirements should be set across the township.
