An employee was injured early Friday at the Vestas wind turbine plant south of Pueblo.

Pueblo police said a 29-year-old man suffered "crushing injuries" to one of his hands.

The employee was identified as Nathan Graham through members of his family.

A Vestas spokesman said Graham was being treated late Friday at a Denver-area hospital for "non-life-threatening" injuries.

Sgt. Joe Garcia of the Pueblo Police Department said Graham's hand was crushed while working on a section of a tower they were putting together.

Police and emergency crews were called to the plant about 8:55 a.m.

Graham is thought to be a welder, Garcia said.

Company spokesman Andrew Longeteig said in a statement that Vestas is "taking necessary steps to determine the root cause of the incident and will provide more information when it's available.

"Safety is our number one value at Vestas, and our investigation is predicated on this commitment."
