Wind Prospect Developments want to build four 127-metre high wind turbines on land off Hill Lane, known as Stoneyard Lane.

The wind farm would be within a mile of Oldbury Naite, Hill and Rockhampton.

However, at a public exhibition held last week in Oldbury, residents said they did not want the wind farm near their homes.

Alexandra Soffe, from Hill, said: "Although I'm very much in favour of wind power in the appropriate setting, I don't think the unspoilt village of Hill is the right place.

"These turbines are twice the height of Oldbury Power Station."

Karen Wrench, also from Hill, said: "This is a very small community with very few buildings. We don't want those on our doorstep."

Nick McCulloch, from Oldbury, said: "I cannot see the point of putting something up with such a puny generating capacity compared with a nuclear power station. It will just add to the visual impact for no point."

At the exhibition local people were able to talk with representatives from Wind Prospect Developments about the wind farm and also view mock up images of how the turbines might look once built.

Despite receiving some objections, those leading the project are optimistic about the farm's future.

Sophie Nioche, development manager from Wind Prospect, said: "We have done quite a lot of consultation work already with local groups and parish councils.

"It is important that we are talking and listening with local people about the wind farm.

"With feedback so far, about 50 percent have been in support and then the other half have objected. It is really encouraging to have people make the effort to contact us who like the plans.

"The main concern raised today has been people don't like the look of wind turbines and don't want them near their homes, but we do need to find somewhere to build renewable energy sources."

Wind Prospect Developments hopes to submit its formal planning application for the Stoneyard wind farm in the autumn.
