“It is an area we are very interested in,” said Steve Stengel, spokesman for NextEra Energy Resources. “We have been talking to potential landowners about the project.”
The company also is currently measuring the wind resources in the area and looking at the transmission availability.
“It’s possible, if everything went perfectly, that we could start in 2010,” said Mr. Stengel. “It’s a 2010-2011 project.”
Still, the company must find a customer interested in purchasing the generated power. Ultimately, customer interest will partially dictate the size of the project.
“We have not, at this point, initiated any of the permitting activities that would be required in either county, although we have talked to county officials,” said Mr. Stengel. “There is still lots to do.”
NextEra Energy Resources is an energy supplier based in Juno Beach, Fla. It is a subsidiary of FPL Group. It has power plants in operation across the United States, with a select few in Canada. This would be the company’s first wind farm project in Missouri, according to the company Web site.
