State regulators will approve We Energies' proposal to build the Glacier Hills Wind Park. At the opening of the commission meeting Monday afternoon, commission chairman Eric Callisto and commissioner Lauren Azar said they will vote to approve the project.


State regulators will approve We Energies' proposal to build the Glacier Hills Wind Park.

At the opening of the commission meeting Monday afternoon, commission chairman Eric Callisto and commissioner Lauren Azar said they will vote to approve the project.

All three commissioners then rejected the request by Invenergy LLC of Chicago that the commission order the Milwaukee utility to buy power from Invenergy's planned Ledge Wind wind farm in Brown County. The commission also rejected a proposal by Clean Wisconsin that would have required the utiltiy to shut down older coal-fired power plants because of a glut in power supplies.

The commission has now moved on to discuss siting issues, including possible conditions on noise limits and the distance a turbine must be built from homes and compensation for homeowners who live near turbines but won't be hosting turbines on their property.
