Burnley wind turbine gets go-ahead despite objections

Plans to erect an 18m. wind turbine on the outskirts of Burnley town centre have been given the green light. Neighbouring residents had objected to the turbine, which will be built on land by The Kestrels, in Manchester Road, due to the impact on the landscape and noise that will be made. However, Burnley Council's Development Control Committee passed the proposals despite reservations from some members.

Coun. Sharon Wilkinson said: "I do think it would have an impact on visual amenity. I think it's far too big and do not think we should be accepting the plans."

The proposal was moved for refusal citing these reasons but was defeated with the majority of councillors backing the plans.

Coun. Frank Cant said: "It's a lot smaller than the big pylon nearby and a lot smaller than other turbines in the area."
