ALLEGANY - A demonstration of potential noise impacts generated by wind farms will be presented at 7 p. m. today to members of the Allegany Town Planning Board by an acoustic expert. The board's special meeting will be held in the Senior Center on Birch Run Road and is open to the public.

The town is entertaining a 32-turbine project application from Everpower Renewables that could begin generating 65 to 80 megawatts in 2010 if approved. Everpower proposes to build its array on 7,000 acres of ridgeline in the Chipmonk area of the Town of Allegany.

The project came to light in 2006, and the town has enacted regulations imposing limits on wind energy facilities.

Acoustic engineer Charles E. Ebbing, of Cape Vincent, will demonstrate the type and levels of noise to be expected near wind farms.
