The premeditated environmental rape of Roth Rock

That predatory wind operatives, who provide no meaningful product or service, would sacrifice these mountains for their narrow self-interest is outrageous. ...Synergics Wind LLC has clear-cut and bulldozed hundreds of acres around Roth Rock, without securing grading permits beforehand and in areas well-known for harboring state-endangered species. Synergics has not applied for or received any construction permit from the Maryland Public Service Commission, as required.

A limited liability wind company salesman said recently that his company carefully selects its sites so as not to intrude on such cultural treasures as Mount Rushmore. Liz McDowell quickly informed him that the mountains of western Maryland are this region's Mount Rushmore, our most culturally significant feature, touching nearly everything we do. Our mountains also constitute the rarest habitat in the state, serving as incubators for many diverse species that sustain us culturally, aesthetically, economically.

Synergics Wind LLC has clear-cut and bulldozed hundreds of acres around Roth Rock, without securing grading permits beforehand and in areas well-known for harboring state-endangered species. Synergics has not applied for or received any construction permit from the Maryland Public Service Commission, as required. Preliminary investigation has revealed the LLC plans to erect a number of 476-foot tall turbines in the area. Dynamiting will likely be required, threatening underground aquifers.

When the project is complete, the mountaintop will disappear, much in the way of coal extraction mountaintop removal schemes, which are illegal in Maryland. The natural beauty will be replaced by machines taller than any building in Baltimore, with differentially moving rotors each much longer than a football field.

Synergics' spokesman Wayne Rogers is the former state Democratic Party chairman, who worked with his colleague Cas Taylor, a wind lobbyist, and his old friend, Senate President Mike Miller, to remove his wind project by law from either environmental or cultural review. In a prior PSC proceeding, he could not substantiate a single one of the claims made for his project.

His company's premeditated environmental and cultural rape of Roth Rock reveals the true character of these wind scammers. The MDPSC is still obligated to protect the public.
