Metlakatla wind farm deal

The company hoping to build a huge wind farm off the Queen Charlotte Islands says it has signed a commercial agreement with the Metlakatla First Nation.
The transmission line from Naikun Wind Energy's proposed farm would run through the First Nation's traditional territory to connect with the B.C. Hydro grid south of Prince Rupert.

The agreement provides economic and financial benefits for Metlakatla and access for Naikun.

The company reached an agreement with the Lax Kw'alaams First Nation earlier this year.

Metlakatla Chief Harold Leighton says they're pleased to support Canada's first offshore wind project.

Naikun will be bidding in B-C Hydro's 2008 call for Clean Power projects.

It's also working on studies to support an application for an environmental assessment.
