Eminent domain proceedings - Prattsburgh, NY

On April 21, the Prattsburgh, NY town board voted 3-2 to authorize the commencement of eminent domain proceedings against landowners unwilling to sign easement agreements with UPC Wind (First Wind), a private wind energy developer seeking to erect 36 turbines across forty-eight properties town. A public hearing was held on May 22 to permit residents and affected landowners an opportunity to comment on the Board's actions. This video clip from the May 22 hearing captures the shock and anger of many in the town over the Board's actions.

This video set (3 parts) shows Judge Tom Alisankus explaining to the Union Planning Commission the research that went into preparing the draft ordinance for governing placement of wind turbines within the township. Judge Alisankus reveals how little science was used by the State of Wisconsin when it developed its model ordinance. Viewers are encouraged to watch all three parts of this video.
