Mary Ellen Jones, formerly of Cohocton, NY, discusses her experience with wind developer First Wind. Ms. Jones lived within the viewshed of First Wind's 125 megawatt wind energy facility referred to as Cohocton Wind. When she found the turbine noise exceeded the permitted levels, she entered into negotiations to sell her home to First Wind. This is her story.

This personal account by Alyssa Ashley, a high school student, appeared in the Cap Times newspaper in Wisconsin. Ms. Ashley lived by the Shirley wind energy facility.

Gerry Meyer lives within Invenergy's Forward Wind facility sited in Fond du Lac County Wisconsin. Since the turbines went online in March 2008, Mr. Meyer and his family have suffered from the noise and shadow flicker resulting from the operating project.

This letter was received by David Carignan the Health Agent for the Town of Falmouth Health Department. The turbine is the NOTUS wind turbine at Technology Park located in Falmouth, MA.

This narrative was adapted from testimony Mr. Mark Cool presented at the Town of Falmouth's fall Town Meeting. Mr. Cool works as an air traffic controller for the FAA. He lives near an industrial-scale wind turbine erected by the town of Falmouth.

This letter was submitted to Goodhue Wind Truth, an organization founded by concerned citizens of Goodhue County Minnesota. The 77 turbine (115.5 megawatt) facility referenced in the letter is owned and operated by Basin Electric Power Cooperative. It went into service December 2009.

Waubra area, Victoria. Carl and Samantha Stepnell submitted their story as evidence before the Australian Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs. The Committee took testimony as it investigated the Social and Economic Impact of Rural Wind Farms. Carl and Samantha Stepnell live in the Waubra area of Victoria. Ms. Stepnell's testimony is provided below along with a letter from Dr. Scott Taylor, a medical doctor who treated the Stepnells.

The garden that was a sanctuary to me for 30 years is now more like a torture chamber. Some of the abutters have started using the term "turbine torture." When the turbine first went into operation in March 2010, and then through April, I tried to acclimate myself to live with this thing. After dropping into a three-month depression, I finally avoided my own home.

Allen Haas, a farmer the Town of Malone, Fond du Lac County filed these comments with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, docket # 1-AC-231. His father was the landowner who signed on with the developers. Allen Haas then bought the property from his dad. He says his dad can’t get over what the turbines have done to his life and to the entire community.

This personal story was submitted to the Wisconsin Public Service Commission as public testimony regarding siting of industrial scale wind energy facilities.

DeKalb County, Illinois is near Chicago. In fact, many people who live in DeKalb work in the City. In 2009, NextERA, formerly known as FPL Energy and one of the largest wind developers in the United States, pushed through approval of its 151-turbine facility spanning the counties of Lee and DeKalb. The residents of DeKalb fought the development; an appeal of the approval order was filed and still pending in the Courts. Nonetheless, NextERA proceeded to construct and commission the project. The fears of the residents have become reality. Below is a sample of what a family in DeKalb County is now experiencing -- and they are not alone.

Jane Davis and her husband Julian live 930 meters from the windfarm at Deeping St Nicholas just south of Spalding in Lincolnshire in the United Kindom. The wind facility consists of eight 2MW REpower MM82 turbines. There are six other houses situated a similar distance away from the turbines since they were commissioned. She and her family have since abandoned their home due to health issues related to the noise. This statement summarizes her experience.

I am from the town of Empire, which includes the Cedar Ridge Wind Farm located in Fond du Lac County Wisconsin. There are 44 wind turbines in this project, three of them are within a quarter mile (1,320 feet) from our home. I can see 12 from our door. Now that the towers are working, people are grumbling. You cannot believe how loud these things are!
