Ocean City and offshore wind

Offshore-us-wind-project-oceancity_thumb This is a photosimulation of U.S. Wind's proposed offshore wind facility to be sited 12-miles off the coast of Maryland. U.S. Wind secured the lease rights to two locations off the coast of Ocean City. In total the company is seeking permission to erect up to 187 turbines (750 MW) within an 80,000-acre area.

Wind turbines consume Germany's landscape

Slide19_thumb These before and after photos by Hermann Dirr of windflut-elpe.de demonstrate the devastation of Germany's landscape due to wind energy. The photos that show the turbines are not simulations but actual photographs of current conditions. Those images without the turbines have been altered to have the turbines removed. The full slide presentation, can be accessed by clicking the link on this page. The creators of this content hope that those who see these images will understand the enormity of the impacts.

Wandylaw and Middlemoor from Holy Island

Wandylaw-middlemoor_from_holy_island_thumb The Middlemoor and Wandylaw projects as seen from Holy Island across the Pilgrims Way. Middlemoor consists of 18 turbines, each with a height of up to 125 metres (including the blades) and a maximum generating capacity of 54 megawatts. The project was placed into service during the summer of 2013. The separate Wandylaw project consists of 10 turbines, also each standing 125 meters in height, with a capacity of 20.5 megawatts.

Turbines sizes at Altamont

Ca_turbinesizecomparison_thumb This composite image shows the relative size of the older turbines at the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area and those replacing them. The smaller turbines are the Windmatic 65 kilowatt machines that stand 84 feet tall on four-leg lattice towers. The blade length is 7 meters. The larger towers are Mitsubishi 1 megawatt turbines installed in the Buena vista section of Altamont with blade lengths of 31 meters.

Ubly towers dominate the view

Ubly_turbinescemetery_thumb John Deere Renewables' 32-tower wind plant located in the Village of Ubly, Huron County Michigan is the largest wind facility in the State. The 53-megawatt facility went into commercial operation in December 2008. The turbines dominate the landscape, and noise emissions are proving unbearable for some neighboring residents.
