Minnesota Landscape - Bent Tree wind facility

Wind-journey-1_thumb On Monday, November 7, 2016, Kristi Rosenquist visit with friends in south-central Minnesota. For 5 1/2 years, Kristi's friends have been living with the constant sound and motion of the Bent Tree wind project (200 MW, 122 turbines) owned by Alliant Energy - a life they describe as torture. This is not a unique story. Many people are sick and tortured in industrial wind projects across the globe. Many have left their homes - either abandoned them entirely, or, when possible sold them at a great financial loss to escape. Kristi took these photos and graciously permiited Windaction to post them here.

NextEra in Tuscola Count, Michigan

Img_0734_thumb These photos clearly demonstrate how wind turbines alter the views and landscape of a community. The towers were sited by NextEra as part of the Tuscola Bay Wind and Wind II facilities. A total of 134 turbines were erected in 2012 and 2013 for a maximum output of 220 megawatts.

Thanet Offshore Wind: Offshore

Thanet-offshore-wind-uk_thumb The Thanet Offshore Wind facility located approximately 12 km off Foreness Point, Margate, and the most eastern part of Kent. The project has been operational since 2010 and consists of 100 Vestas V90 3MW wind turbines for a total installed capacity of 300MW.

Destruction of a mountain: Bingham Wind site work

Bingham_wind-road_thumb These images demonstrate the size and scale of land preparation required to construct turbine projects using machines standing nearly 500-feet in height. First Wind is constructing its 57-turbine wind facility in Somerset County, Maine. The project, at 185 MW, will be the largest in Maine and in New England. The turbines will have a tower height of 94 Meters and rotor diameter for the three blades of 112 or 113 meters placing the total height with the blade fully extended at 150 meters (492 feet) or more. SunEdison will be using 47 Vestas’ V112-3.3 MW turbine for the project together with components previously ordered from Vestas. Reporting on the actual number and capacity of the turbines has varied due to First Wind changing turbine models but it appears that ten of the turbines will be Vestas V112-3.0 MW.

Wind turbines consume Germany's landscape

Slide19_thumb These before and after photos by Hermann Dirr of windflut-elpe.de demonstrate the devastation of Germany's landscape due to wind energy. The photos that show the turbines are not simulations but actual photographs of current conditions. Those images without the turbines have been altered to have the turbines removed. GE 1.6 MW turbines dominate Michigan's landscape

Echowind_1_thumb DTE Energy's 112 MW Echo Wind project is under construction in the townships of Elkton, Chandler, and Oliver in Michigan's Huron County. Construction of the wind facility's 70 GE 1.6 MW wind turbines was completed in mid-October. GE's commissioning of the project was scheduled to be completed by the end of November. The company suspended commissioning activities after experiencing a catastrophic blade failure on Nov. 7, 2013.

Wandylaw and Middlemoor from Holy Island

Wandylaw-middlemoor_from_holy_island_thumb The Middlemoor and Wandylaw projects as seen from Holy Island across the Pilgrims Way. Middlemoor consists of 18 turbines, each with a height of up to 125 metres (including the blades) and a maximum generating capacity of 54 megawatts. The project was placed into service during the summer of 2013. The separate Wandylaw project consists of 10 turbines, also each standing 125 meters in height, with a capacity of 20.5 megawatts.
